Tassos D. Recachinas, CFA
Tassos D. Recachinas, CFA is Founder and Managing Member of Sophis Investments LLC.  Previously, he served as Investment Analyst at Pirate Capital LLC, an activist and event-driven hedge fund sponsor. Mr. Recachinas began his career as an Equity Research Associate at Raymond James & Associates, providing institutional equity research coverage on Defense Electronics & Mobile Data Technology securities for a WSJ best-on-the-street ranked analyst Christopher Quilty. Over his career, he has helped advise a variety of companies spanning a broad array of industries to maximize shareholder value. Mr. Recachinas previously served on the Board of Directors of The Allied Defense Group, Inc., a NYSE multinational defense company. Mr. Recachinas earned a B.S. summa cum laude, Mechanical Engineering concentration in Aerospace Engineering, from The George Washington University, where he was as a member of the Honors program. He spent one year at The University of Oxford, Pembroke College. Mr. Recachinas is a CFA® charterholder.
Edward I. O’Brien III
Edward I. O’Brien III is Chairman of Sophis Investments LLC. Mr. O’Brien has over 37 years financial industry experience in a variety of management roles. Mr. O’Brien began his career at Prudential Bache Securities, where he spent 20 years in Fixed Income, eventually becoming Senior Vice President and Director of Government Agency underwriting & trading. Mr. O’Brien then spent eight years at Keefe, Bruyette and Woods as Executive Vice President & member of the firm’s Management Committee. After KBW, Mr. O’Brien joined Guggenheim Securities as Managing Director, and later M&R Capital Management, an SEC-registered investment adviser for four years. Mr. O’Brien served on the board of advisors of Alexander Capital L.P., a registered broker-dealer. Mr. O’Brien is involved in a variety of charitable and philanthropic endeavors, including as former trustee of Fordham Preparatory School, Chairman of Fordham University’s President’s Council, and Chairman of the leadership committee of the Archdiocese of New York’s Cardinal’s Appeal. Mr. O’Brien was born in New York, NY. He earned an undergraduate degree from Fordham University.
George V. Merrill, JD, MBA
George V. Merrill, JD, MBA is Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager at Sophis Investments LLC. Mr. Merrill has over 40 years portfolio management experience, including at: Northern Trust Corporation, where he became Vice President, Senior Portfolio Manager & member of the Stock Selection Committee; The Bank of New York Mellon, as Vice President, Senior Portfolio Manager & member of the Personal Asset Management Equity Investment Committee; and most recently M&R Capital Management, Inc., as Senior Vice President & Senior Portfolio Manager. Mr. Merrill is a licensed attorney admitted to the Bar of the State of New York and was born in New York City. He earned an undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Harvard College, a JD from Harvard University Law School, and an MBA from Columbia University.
